Tomahawk Smaills Beachcare Trust
About Us
We are an organised and active not-for-profit trust, comprising a focussed group of volunteers committed to community-supported environmental restoration, education and awareness.
Made up of trustee members and other volunteers, we work towards restoring the native bush and stabilising the dunes in the area.
TSBT started in its current form in 2008, but tree planting work in the area actually began in 2000. More than 30,000 trees have been raised and planted from 2000 to 2018. The Beachcare Nursery was completed in 2007 and we employ a part-time Nursery manager to raise the plants from locally occurring seed collections. The Nursery produces about 4000 seedlings each year.

Engaging with community groups across Dunedin, we provide opportunities for those who are interested to help at the Nursery or at our planting days.

We work with the Dunedin City Council, Otago Peninsula Community Board, Department of Conservation, and other coastal & community groups to ensure our vision of a completely restored environment will happen.
